Best practices

Mobile First

Keep the mobile-first concept in mind. Design and create your story from small to big - from mobile to desktop.

Make changes

If you make changes to your story later, make sure it has the desired effect at higher resolution levels. If different settings are already entered there, they will not be overwritten.

Testing

Test your finished story extensively for all different resolutions and devices.

Preview mode

Use the preview mode regularly to get a better impression of your story in the final display. In addition, many effects and story backgrounds are only displayed in preview mode.

Header tags

Due to SEO technical reasons, you should be very sparing with the use of h1 and h2 tags. You can set the font size of a text block separately regardless of the h* tag.

Placing text on an image

If you want to display text on an image, it is best to use only the text block and insert the image as a background.

FAQ

Why is my finished story not showing up?

Make sure the story has at least one target page and widget zone assigned to it, and also that Published is enabled. See Publishing options.

Why does the layout of my story change depending on the resolution level?

The Story passes on the settings of any resolution from smartphone to desktop. If you make changes to the desktop setting, they will not be reflected in the smartphone resolution . However, if you make changes to the smartphone setting, it may change their desktop setting. See Responsive rendering.

Why are changes to my layout not applied from subsequent resolution levels?

Make sure that settings, of a higher resolution level, do not overwrite the existing ones. In these places, the value is inherited from the previous resolution level if no value is entered for the current resolution setting.

Where can I see widget zones / How can I find out where widget zones are located?

Enable the widget zone display under Admin > Plugins > Developer Tools. Widget zones will then be displayed if you are logged in with an administrator account. The name of each widget zone is displayed when you hover over the widget zone tag.

Why can't I find the Toolbox Story options (Layout / Background / Blocks) in the right margin anymore?

Make sure that you do not have a block currently selected. When you select a block, the block options are displayed instead of the story options. To deselect the block, press an empty space within your story in the grid, or reselect the selected block.

Where can I find the settings for padding & margin?

Click on a block that you want to configure. You will see the toolbox on the right edge. Since a block is selected, the toolbox now shows block options. Here you can set padding & margin and other options.

Why can't I set anything or enter anything in margin & padding?

Click in one of the fields for margin / padding and drag the mouse with pressed mouse button upwards to increase and downwards to decrease the distance.

How can I display text on an image?

If you want to display text on an image, you should use only the text block if possible. With the Text block, simply insert your desired image as the background. You can set the text formatting using the Text Block settings or using the Block Options toolbox.

Why is my background image/effect (image/color/gradient/video/shading) not displayed when I edit?

Activate the preview mode. See General controls.

Why is my button not displayed?

In order for the text block button to be displayed, a link target and a display text or icon must be specified.

Why can't I select my block?

Make sure you have selected the correct block. When you click on a block in the Story View, the topmost block is always selected. You can only select a block that is overlaid by another block using the Block Manager.
